Tereza & I walked aimlessly through her city's streets.
She pointed out sites of interest: Mozart once stayed here,
Austrian Empress Maria Thereza there; past a
nearly-900-year-old Romanesque bishop's palace & a
church built on the site where the local saint, St. Jan
Sarkener was tortured & killed in 1620.

"Eventually, we ended up in front of
the gothic St. Moritz church.  And a few
minutes after that, we were at the top of
the church's gothic bell tower..."

It was one of the highest lookout points in the city,
having paid the $ .50 entrance fee & scaled the
tower's steep circular stone staircase.

The city's 2 spires - those of the town hall & the medieval cathedral of St. Wenceslas -
dominated the skyline from near opposite ends of the Old Town.  My eyes were drawn to the gray, boxy
communist-era department store that was plopped right in front of the church we were standing on
top of.  "It used to be a nice square," said Tereza with a tone of regret in her voice.
